Land Gate (Kopnena Vrata)
Our journey begins at the monumental Land Gate, the historic southern entrance to Zadar's Old Town. You'll learn about the Venetian influence on the city's history and uncover the mystery hidden within its carved stone decorations. For centuries, this was the main entrance to the city, making it the perfect place to begin our adventure.
Five Wells Square (Trg pet bunara)
This picturesque square is home to five Renaissance wells that supplied the city with fresh water for centuries. It is also a place where history is written into every detail—from sculptures and carvings to the surrounding defensive walls.
Medieval Zadar
We'll explore hidden corners of the Old Town, where you'll discover some of the city's earliest medieval structures and foundations. Here, you'll quite literally be able to touch history and witness how Zadar developed through the centuries.
Church of St. Simeon
One of the city's most important churches, it houses the precious relics of St. Simeon the God-Receiver, preserved in a magnificent gilded silver sarcophagus considered one of the finest masterpieces of medieval goldsmithing in Croatia. The church remains an important place of worship, and every year solemn processions are held in honour of the saint.
Kalelarga
Zadar's main street has followed the same route since Roman times. Today it is the lively heart of the city, lined with cafés, restaurants, and charming shops.
People's Square (Narodni trg) and the City Loggia (Gradska loža)
Since the Middle Ages, this square has been the political and social centre of Zadar. Today it remains a popular meeting place and hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year.
Cathedral of St. Anastasia
The largest and one of the oldest churches in Zadar, the Cathedral of St. Anastasia is an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture. Built during the 12th and 13th centuries, it has undergone several additions over the years, including Baroque renovations.
Its impressive bell tower rises 56 metres above the city, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Zadar and the Adriatic Sea. Inside, visitors can admire remarkable sacred art, Romanesque architectural features, beautiful altars, and centuries of history. Dedicated to St. Anastasia, an early Christian martyr, the cathedral reflects the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Zadar.
