Croatia has been a member of the European Union since 2013, and from January 1, 2023, also a country belonging to the Schengen area.
Due to the above, border controls were abolished:
* On January 1, 2023, border controls were abolished at land crossings with Slovenia and Hungary and at sea crossings with member states of the zone
* On March 26, 2023, checks at border crossings at airports were abolished
Despite the lack of border controls, travelers and vacationers in Croatia must still have an identity document with them - a passport or ID card, valid for a minimum of 90 days from the date of crossing the Croatian border. The obligation to have a document applies to both adults and children.
At the same time, we would like to remind you that Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia, neighboring Croatia, are not members of the Schengen area and border traffic with these countries takes place under the existing rules, with document control. This is especially important for people who plan trips abroad during their holidays in Croatia (e.g. Mostar, Međugorje).
