During the tour, we will explore Zagreb’s representative city centre as well as the historic districts of Kaptol and Gradec, which developed for centuries as two separate settlements. We will see the monumental Zagreb Cathedral, one of the city’s most atmospheric streets, a medieval city gate, the iconic St. Mark’s Church and the Lotrščak Tower. The walk will end in one of the greenest and most elegant parts of the city centre – Zrinjevac.

Zagreb’s main square and one of the most important meeting places for local residents. Its most recognizable landmark is the statue of Ban Josip Jelačić, one of the best-known figures in Croatian history.

Kaptol is the historic ecclesiastical part of the city, closely connected with Zagreb’s development since the Middle Ages. Its most important landmark is the monumental Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the symbols of the Croatian capital. Following the earthquakes of 2020, the cathedral underwent extensive restoration work.

One of Zagreb’s most charming and lively streets, today filled with cafés, restaurants and local life. In the past, the Medveščak stream flowed here, separating the two historic settlements of Kaptol and Gradec.

A small street whose name means “Bloody Bridge”, referring to historic conflicts between the inhabitants of Kaptol and Gradec. It is one of the places that reminds visitors that modern Zagreb developed from two neighbouring but separate settlements.

The historic heart of Zagreb’s Upper Town. In 1242, Gradec was granted the status of a free royal city and for centuries developed independently from neighbouring Kaptol. Even today, this part of Zagreb retains the atmosphere of the old city.

The only preserved medieval gate of the former town of Gradec. Inside, there is a chapel with an image of the Virgin Mary which, according to historical tradition, survived the great fire of 1731. Today, the Stone Gate remains one of the most important religious sites in Zagreb.

One of the most distinctive squares in the city. It is home to the famous St. Mark’s Church, known for its colourful tiled roof decorated with historic coats of arms. The square is also surrounded by the buildings of the Croatian Parliament and Government.

Lotrščak Tower is one of the best-preserved remains of Gradec’s former defensive system. It is also connected with one of Zagreb’s best-known traditions – the Grič Cannon, which has marked noon with a cannon shot since the 19th century.

One of Zagreb’s most elegant and greenest squares. Its historic music pavilion, tree-lined paths, fountains and surrounding 19th-century architecture reveal a completely different side of the city from the medieval streets of the Upper Town.
